Lilo

I have bad news. My Lilo-kitty died. She probably got hit by a car, but I’m not sure when or exactly how she died and my next door neighbor came over, looking very worried. She asked when the last time I saw Lilo–it was last week. Tuesday was the last time I saw her, but her last sighting was on Wednesday morning.

We got new neighbors last week and she saw the new neighbors, she must have freaked out. She was a very friendly cat, once she got to know you, but until then, she was very leery about new people.

Anyway, so the neighbor says, “Do you want to go see if that’s your cat?” She didn’t have to ask me twice. I bolted out the door. She appeared to be headed back into her house, but I asked if she could show me where she saw her. She walked with me. We stayed inside the fence line, but she couldn’t see her, so we walked out the gate and we still didn’t see her. We were waiting for the construction workers to finish so we could ask them if they had seen a cat, but I looked down the road and I asked her if that was it. She shrugged and we walked down the street. It was about 15 feet and then I realized that it was my cat. She was in bad shape. Her gut had a hole in it, her intestines hanging out, her mouth was wide open, bloody and her eyeball was protruding out of her head. I can’t say for 100% that it was my cat, but I’m 98% certain it was her. All I could do was cry.

My neighbor hugged me and wouldn’t allow me to look at Lilo again. She said, “You don’t need to see this again.” She walked back with me on post and then she offered to clean up her remains and bury her. I asked if she wanted me to go with her or help, but she said no, just repay the favor to someone else.

I tried to call Rob as soon as I got in the house, I was bawling. His phone was off, so I had to call his office and leave a message for him to call me back ASAP. I also left a message with me bawling to my in-laws and Dad called me back right away. The Chaplain’s wife came over to talk to me for a few minutes and I also talked to another neighbor of mine. As soon as Rob got home, he could tell I wasn’t feeling well and gave me big hugs.

I don’t think that Casey and Gizmo really understand that Lilo died, but I told Gizmo. He purred and gave me lots of snuggles today. I don’t know if he understands that she’s dead, but he understands that I’m upset and was trying to comfort me. My animals are my life! I’m going to post some pictures of Lilo later.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Ben and Krystal says:

I wanted to touch base with you since I haven’t seen you in forever, and was sad to hear the news. =(

Come on over sometime to meet the baby, OK?

  2. I’m so, so sorry to read about your cat. (Actually, I couldn’t read it all, but I didn’t need to.)

I hope you’ll be able to remember her live images easier than the most recent ones.
